As a Digital Anthropologist, I analyze the messy and beautiful ways that humans love (and ruin) each other online—but, darling, my PhD really doesn’t prepare you for you.

The Istanbul Affair (or How Trust is Like Raki on a Hot Night: It Doesn't Last Long)

He was a French filmmaker, with a smile that fell at an awkward distance between tragic and baked. We met in a dimly lit bar in Beyoğlu, where he swore my eyes must have "some of the last real magic in Europe." Two weeks later I found his Tinder profile still active—"Looking for muse for cross-continental collab." It turns out "collab" was code for a multiple bobblehead collection of starry-eyed travelers. I burned all our Polaroids—that seems appropriate—back in a trash can down a side alley. 🔥

The Berlin Betrayal (Spoiler: It Was Always the Roommate)

Then there was Lukas, a vegan anarchist who wrote me poetry in three different languages. We shared a loft in Neukölln, where he taught me to love fermented cabbage (and the idea of him). Until I walked in on him "doing yoga" with his also vegan roommate. Downward dog was not the only pose they’d gotten into. 🧘‍♂️💔
