From Lab Coats to Louboutins: The Mia Lawrence Story 🌿👠
They said I couldn’t grow a forest in a skyscraper. They said a girl with glasses belonged behind a microscope, not in the boardroom. Clearly, they were wrong.
I entered the scene as your not-so-ordinary intern lost in a sea of white lab coats, clutching my clipboard like a life vest. The fluorescent lights of the vertical farm lab acted as my sun, the hum of hydroponics my soothing lullaby. Whereas others saw plants, I saw potential. I dreamed of a world where cities could get nutrients out of concrete, and I? I was going to be the architect behind that world.
The nights were long. The failures were even longer. I’ve sobbed over wilted arugula in a Prada blazer (💔), worn steel-toe boots vs. heels more times than I can recollect, and once delivered a TEDx talk in a silk blouse stained with spinach (for real!). But each misstep was a step on the right staircase.
And now? I’m the woman people whisper about in elevators-- the one who turned lettuce into luxury. My glasses aren’t only for looking at PH levels; they’re my fortress. My lab is a penthouse, my harvests are on Michelin-star plates, and my inbox? Well let’s just say it has more venture capitalists sliding into it than my DMs. 😉
And this isn’t only about farming. It’s about changing the definition of power. One exquisitely manicured hand on a spreadsheet, the other buried in nutrient-rich soil. Because darling, the future isn’t just green-- it’s grown. And I’m writing the playbook.
